American Reform essays

American Reform essays In the following essay based on my knowledge of history and historical data I agree that The Bill of Rights came from the fear of the power of a new government. The people did not want Congress to have all the power and become a monarchy and commit tyranny as the English did. The Bill of Rights defends there rights as men to be have freedoms such as freedom of religion and freedom of the press. Also for men to have the right to a fair trial. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. o One example of this was the Zenger Trials in 1735. In the Zenger Trials presented the idea of freedom of the press. John Zenger was put on trial for writing in the papers and criticizing the colonial government. His lawyer, Andrew Hamilton, defended him successfully and it was from then on that peoples opinions were not punished, but respected. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. o Boston Massacre in 1770. The British brutally attacked the colonies from behind. Five people were killed and after this the colonies needed to be more prepared for attacks. o Battle of Concord and Lexington in 1775. The British tried to seize the arms of the colonists. No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. o Quartering Act of 1765. Colonists were forced to allow the colonist to let the British soldiers eat and do whatever they wanted in their homes. ...

Sonny & Bebop essays

Sonny & Bebop essays Sonnys Blues is a short story by James Baldwin. Its about a boys growth to adulthood in a Harlem ghetto. His name is Sonny. He is sentenced to a government institution do to his selling and using of heroin. Sonny moved in with his brother, who he has not seen in 5 years. Sonnys brother, the narrator of the story, is 8 years older than Sonny is. He is married and teaches algebra in New York City. Sonnys brother wants to stay away from Harlem and its people. The symbolic significance of Sonnys name is that the character of Sonny represents bebop in both its positive and negative aspects. The meaning of Sonnys Blues is not the transcendence of the human condition through art, but is instead about sadness and joy. Bebop was first introduced in the early nineteen hundreds. It became very controversial at a time when jazz was gaining respectability. While jazz encouraged people to dance and have a good time, bebop told them to do something totally different. The bebop style is full of emotions that were often dark, sad, and brooding. Very rarely did bebop make someone feel happiness and joy. Sonny, like many bebop figures of his time, used heroin to suppress his emotions. Maybe thats why he is such a good representation of bebop. He used drugs to comfort himself, and turned to heroin when he needed a fix. Drugs and heroin played a major roll in Sonnys life. They got him incarcerated and virtually ruined his life. He needed a place to lean, a clear space to listen, and he couldnt find it, he did terrible things to himself (Literature and Society 99). Many of bebops central figures like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and many others important bebop innovators suffered from addictions to drugs; heroin was the most common drug in the jazz word. In fact, bebop and heroin were virtually synonymous (Short Story for Students 250). ...

Wonderfun plc - Essay Example To analyse the current position of Wonderfun, the trends in financial ratios have been seen and the performance of company with other companies has been compared by taking the industry averages. Based on analysis, few recommendations have been provided to the company and investors. The financial ratios analysis has shown that Wonderfun PLC has been performing above than market average during the period 2005-2008. The year 2009 appears to be a tough year for the company, as its profits have reduced and debt and liabilities have increased. Still, the company has paid the same dividend in 2009, as it has paid in 2008. Moreover, Wonderfun has also pursued expansion strategy in 2009, which have enhanced the liabilities of the company; however, the sales of company are improving after this expansion. It has been recommended to the company that it can improve its performance in coming years by reducing its operating expenses such as selling and distribution costs. Moreover, it has been suggested to investors that Wonderfun is still a good company to invest in because of its excellent past performance, declining industry performance in 2009 (which also affected company) and potential of increasing revenues because of expansion strategy.
